Athletes Recognised at Parliament House
On Tuesday 23 August, the NSW Regional Academies of Sport gathered at NSW Parliament House for a Parliamentary Reception recognising the role of NSW Regional Academies and their outstanding athletes. The Speaker of the House, The Hon. Shelley Hancock MP and The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, The Minister for Sport and Member for Penrith, were both in attendance to extend their congratulations to the success of Academy athletes from all over regional NSW.
The Western Sydney Academy invited young Cyclist, Joshua Brodie and Auburn Lone Star athlete Rachel Wood to the reception in representation of all the Academy’s athletes. Also in attendance to recognise our athletes was The Hon. Lynda Voltz MLC, Shadow Minister for Sport.
The Academy welcomed along members of it’s corporate family including representatives from Hitek Australia & Spartan Sports, Castle Hill RSL Club and Western Sydney University.
It was a great opportunity for our athletes to not only be recognised by influential politicians and corporate supporters but to also meet other athletes competing in varying sports from Regional Academies all over the state.
Joshua Brodie will be heading to Bendigo next week to participate in the National Road Cycling Championships for the NSW State Team, while Rachel Wood heads to the Netherlands to compete as a member of the Australian Life Saving Team. We wish both of these athletes the best of luck.
