Australia Day Honours for Josh Gadd and Nathan Craig
Academy athletes Josh Gadd and Nathan Craig have celebrated Australia Day in style, taking out the “Sportsperson of the Year” awards for their respective councils, Penrith and Parramatta.
Gadd, from Glenmore Park was honoured by Penrith City Council in a ceremony that honoured 10 Penrith citizens from a variety of award categories.
Josh’s 2015 Achievements
- Winner – JNJG Harvey Norman Week of Golf (15yrs)
- R/UP JNJG – Wagga Wagga Junior Masters
- R/UP JNJG – Peter O’Malley Junior Masters in Bathurst (WSAS were also team winners).
- Penrith Golf Club Mens Pennants Team – Winners
- Penrith Junior Pennants Team – R/UP
- State Age Champion in the 2015 JNJG – Subaru State Age championship.
- WSAS Golf Athlete of the Year
This was Josh’s second year as a member of the Academy Golf Squad. Throughout the entire Program Josh applied himself well at every session and won many challenges along the way.
Josh credits the Academy program with improving his performance standards through the provision of coaching and seminars.
Academy Golf Head Coach Asef Haddad has commented that “Josh’s dedication to his game is excellent and he strives to improve in all areas. He was a valued member of the Academy squad and consistently demonstrated that he was a team player.”
Nathan Craig, who resides in Winston Hills had a very shaky start to 2015, taking a few months to recover from a very big fall; however his grit and determination saw him continually push himself and be rewarded with some great results on the bike.
Nathan’s 2015 Achievements
Road Races May / Sept:
Goulburn Junior Tour – 6th overall on General Classification
Southern Cross Open – 3rd in the Criterium & Road Race
State Road Championships – Finished in the lead group in criterium.
National Road Championships – He finished in the lead group in the Road Race with the same time as the winner.
Criterium series Oct/Nov:
Spring Cycle Criteriums – 6th in sprint finish with lead group
Orica Mick Chapman Memorial Criterium – 4th place
MS Wollongong Criterium – 6th place
Track Season Oct / Jan:
Clarence Street Cup – 2nd in Main wheel Race, 1st in Scratch Race & Elimination Race
Scody Sydney Cup – Day 1 – placed in the Scratch Race & Elimination, won all events on Day 2
Bathurst Track Open – placed 2nd or 3rd in all events
CNSW Metropolitan Championships – 2nd Scratch Race, 4th in Time Trial
National Junior Track Series – Finished 18th overall from 109 National riders.
Academy cycling coach, Nash Kent commented “Nathan has been in the WSAS Cycling program since its inception in 2012. He has gone from a complete novice to a competitive A grade racer. He is also now a mentor for the younger athletes and is very deserving of this award.”
Nathan was honoured on Australia Day at Parramatta Park amongst other Australia Day award winners.
