ClubsNSW Ramps Up Its Commitment To Regional Sport

Young athletes from across the state will undergo an intensive education program covering everything from the dangers of drugs in sport to nutrition and financial literacy, thanks to a new ClubsNSW-funded scheme to be administered by the Regional Academies of Sport (RASi). ClubsNSW has committed to $200,000 a year for the next three years towards the program, which will provide a best practice health and wellbeing program to 2000 young people across the state.

AFL Athletes Get A ‘Giant’ Promotion

In October 2016 talented AFL athletes from across Western Sydney were inducted into the Academy’s AFL squad. This program would see the athletes develop their skills and knowledge before gaining the opportunity to move on to the next level in the development pathway. This month the GWS Giants selected their U16 GWS Giants Academy squad with a long list of those selected coming from the Western Sydney Academy of Sports AFL Squad.

2017 ClubsNSW Academy Games Wrap

The weekend of 7th-9th April saw the Academy’s Hockey, Netball, Golf and boys Softball squads head to the NSW Central Coast to compete against ten other Regional Academies from across the state. Hosted once again by the Central Coast Academy of Sport, the ClubsNSW Academy Games showcased the sporting talent in regional NSW in particular our Western Sydney athletes.

Rugby League Team Take Perth By Storm

The Academy’s SG Ball and Harold Matthews Rugby League teams have had a tumultuous season thus far but are proving themselves as worthy competitors out on the pitch! In round 6 the squads travelled south-west to Campbelltown Stadium to take on the Western Suburbs Magpies. The Harold Matthews (U16’s) squad played a great game of rugby league coming away with a 30 – 22 win against the Magpies. The game was proceeded by the SG Ball (U18’s) who just went down 17 – 18.

Heartland Motors To Support Academy Lone Stars

Western Sydney Academy of Sport is excited to announce Heartland Motors as our new Lone Star Athlete Development Program Partner. The Academy’s Lone Star program has been established to provide holistic development opportunities for young athletes involved in sports that are not currently supported by Academy programs.

Softball Reps Make NSW Proud

From the 2nd – 8th January Softball Australia held the 48th U17 Girls’ National Softball Championships at Blacktown International Sportspark. Three of The Academy’s talented young softballers Shaylan Whatman, Georgia Britton and Emily Peters all competed as members of the NSW representative team.
