On 14th and 15th August the Academy cycling squad travelled to Port Macquarie for the NSW Junior Road Championships which involved a number of races. Despite some athletes with illnesses the athletes performed very well with some oustanding performances from Ben Sagona and Travis Smedley. Ben came 2nd in the road race and Travis came 2nd in the time trial and won the criterium. Following the Championships Ben and Travis were also named in the NSW Road Team.

Our thanks to the coaching and management staff for organizing all the logistics including travel, accommodation and competition activities.

In partnership with Cycling NSW and the support of the NSW Institute of Sport, the Academy has successfully conducted a Cycling Program for the past six years with some outstanding athletes passing through the Academy’s ranks.

The success of the program has been demonstrated in the progression of a significant number of Academy scholarship holders to NSW Institute of Sport scholarships and State and National Championship events.

The 2010-11 Cycling Program commenced with an induction meeting at the beginning of June, with 11 male and female cyclists awarded scholarships. New Head Coach Margaret Horne and Assistant Coach Brian Sprouster will guide the talented young squad through a program of road and track activities.
