Congratulations to 20 athletes who have been selected in the Academy's 2012 Netball Program following selection trials on 8th November. The selected athletes will receive information in the mail shortly regarding an Induction Meeting where they will receive more information regarding the program.
The Netball Talent Development Program will offer the athletes opportunities to develop their individual skills with skills training sessions at the Anne Clarke Centre, camp and competition opportunities, fitness testing and education seminars. Thanks to the strong support from Netball NSW and NSWIS there will also be numerous guest coaches and integration with the NSW Swifts.
The program will run until August 2012 and will also include an abbreviated 15s Development Program which will begin in July 2012.
2011 Netball Program
The 2011 Netball Program for 16-18 year old athletes is now complete with the squad having participated in a wide range of activities to enhance their knowledge and skills including: nutrition seminar, fitness testing, goal setting, psychology and a number of skills training sessions. The squad also had some oustanding performances at the NIB Games and Academy Games being undefeated at both competitions.
With fantastic support again from Netball NSW, there were a number of initiatives that were thoroughly enjoyed by the athletes. The squad had the opportunity to play against the South West Sydney and Illawarra Academies at the State Sports Centre then stay to watch the NSW Swifts play. Guest coaches at a number of training sessions included Swifts players Rebecca Bulley, Courtney Tairi, Vanessa Ware and NSWIS coach Anita Keelan.
Congratulations to current athlete Kristina Brice who has been named in the Australian 21/U team, a great achievement for an athlete only 17 years old. The Australian team will play in a series of practice matches in the lead up to the Holden Netball Test Series against the Australian Diamonds, New Zealand Silver Ferns, South Africa and Malawi. As an example of the outstanding talent coming from Western Sydney, previous Academy athletes Kim Ravaillion, Amy Sommerville and Paige Hadley were also named in the team.

Netball represents one of the Academy’s strongest High Performance Training Programs, involving squads of both 18 and Over, and 15 Years athletes. With the strong support of Netball NSW and assistance from the NSWIS, the Program provides outstanding development opportunities in line with the Netball Australia national curriculum, delivered by a highly qualified coaching staff.
