Slalom Canoe / Kayak

Academy slalom athlete Jessica Fox has won 2 gold medals at the ICF junior world championships in France. 16 year old Jessica achieved an unprecedented double by winning two individual world championship gold medals. She won gold in the C1 women and just over an hour later claimed a second gold in K1 women. Alison Borrows also came a very close 4th in the womens C1 just missing out on podium position. Congratulations Jessica and Alison!

The Academy’s Slalom (Canoe/Kayak) Program has established benchmarks in performances for Academy athletes, as well as benchmarks in the standard of facilities and coaching resources applied to an Academy program.

An emerging Olympic sport, Slalom has the benefit of the best available venue in the southern hemisphere - the Penrith Whitewater Stadium - at which to conduct on-water coaching sessions. These sessions are resourced by the AIS/NCE Program coaching staff, also situated at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium.

Athletes receive intense on-water coached and un-coached access throughout a period from March through to November each year, and are supported in a number of competition and camp opportunities both inter-State and at the Penrith Stadium.

A large number of Academy Program athletes have progressed to National Junior and Senior Teams, as well as NSWIS Scholarship status.

The 2010-11 Program will be conducting selection trials in October 2010 at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
