The Academy has conducted an AFL High Performance Program for the past three years, involving the provision of development opportunities to talented young AFL players identified by the AFL (NSW/ACT) Talent Program Management.

The AFL Program has involved a range of core curriculum technical components as well as educational and event opportunities. The success of the program has been demonstrated in the progression of a significant number of Academy scholarship holders to NSW Under 16 and Under 18 representative squads, as well as receiving AFL Club Scholarships.

With the recent establishment of the AFL’s new Western Sydney franchise – currently known as Team GWS – the Academy has been in close consultation with their High Performance Manager and Academy Program Manager to assess the most appropriate positioning of a Western Sydney Academy AFL Program.

Team GWS has indicated that an Academy Program will be supported and play an integral role in the development pathway for the region’s young AFL players as they strive to become one of the first local products to play in the AFL’s newest franchise !

It is envisaged that a new AFL Program will be planned and commenced in 2011.
