Parliamentary Reception 2011

Three of the Academy’s highest achieving athletes were given an opportunity to visit the NSW Parliament House on Thursday 24 November, when they attended a special Parliamentary Reception for Regional Academy athletes from across New South Wales.

Western Sydney Academy athletes Grant Booth (Golf), Kristina Brice (Netball) and Alice Donohoe (Softball) joined other high achieving Regional Academy athletes from all over NSW at the event.

The reception, hosted by the Speaker of the House, The Hon Shelley Hancock MP, was also attended by a host of State Members of Parliament, in particular the Minister for Sport, The Hon Graham Annesley MP.   It was a great opportunity to recognise the financial commitment of the NSW Government to the ongoing operation and development of Regional Academies.

The MPs took the chance to greet their respective athletes and talk about their recent achievements and involvement in the Academy’s programs.

Academy CEO Martin Bullock commented that the Parliamentary Reception was an annual event recognising Academy athletes and the role Academies play in their development. “Grant, Kristina and Alice have been outstanding in their performances over the past 12 months and they are deserving of the recognition afforded them” he said.
