New & Returning Athletes Learn What It’s All About
On Saturday 15 October the Academy inducted athletes from AFL, Softball, Netball, Cycling and Golf into the 2016/17 Programs. The induction day was held at the Western Sydney University’s Kingswood Campus (WSU) and accompanied by industry professionals who shared their knowledge with athletes to assist with their elite development.
The day started with an introduction to the Academy followed a guest speaker from WSU who discussed with the athletes different enrolment options that the university has on offer. They were also told of the different ways their sporting talents can help them gain entry into university and how it is nurtured through their prospective studies at WSU.
Athletes then split up and dispersed into their squad groups where they got the opportunity to meet coaching and management staff, discuss what the program will entail and how to make the most of the opportunity they’ve been awarded. Once regathered, the cohort were engaged in a presentation from proud Academy partners, OnePointHealth, who talked about injury management and prevention from within and outside their sporting arenas.
Lastly, Communication Training Services, came along to talk to the athletes about the importance of being cyber smart with the ever growing world of technology and then went on to discuss issues around doping in sport and how important it is to be aware of current legislation.
The Hockey squad are next to be inducted and the Academy looks forward to a year full of achievements and development.
