BASKETBALL PROGRAM

The Western Sydney Academy of Sport’s Basketball Program provides high performance training opportunities for talented young athletes in the western Sydney region and is aligned with Basketball NSW’s Developing Athlete Program. The Program provides an essential and highly relevant step in the development pathway of young basketball athletes from across the Western Sydney region – with the ultimate goal of preparing these talented young players for progression to the Basketball NSW State Athlete Program.

The Program content will feature skills and technical development opportunities, athlete education, sports science and fitness elements and personal development opportunities The Program is a comprehensive introduction to what will be required at the elite levels of the sport.

Duration: October – April

Venues: Hills Sports Stadium, Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre, Blacktown Leisure Centre

Athletes may have the opportunity to compete at the Clubs NSW Academy Games.

To be eligible for the Academy Basketball Program, athletes must be:

  • Competing in a Basketball NSW Club/Association in the U14 & U16 age group;
  • Committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of basketball;
  • A current financial member of a basketball Club or Association within the western Sydney region;
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, City of Parramatta, Penrith or The Hills.

An athlete levy of $390 is applicable to athletes, which assists in meeting the costs of the Program. This will be advised at the time of nominations.

In addition to regular scheduled training sessions, the following benefits will apply to athletes selected within the WSAS 2017/18 Academy Basketball Program:

  • Valuable athlete education seminars provided by specialists in nutrition, physiology and injury management & prevention;
  • Access to online portals for ASADA, AIS My Basecamp and other relevant websites;
  • Opportunities to represent WSAS at various events;
  • Access to the WSAS Sportslocker online communication system;
  • Academy athlete uniform clothing;
  • Ability to nominate for the annual Woolworths Athlete Scholarship;
  • A privileged pricing on 2XU compression clothing purchases;
  • A 20% discount on services provided by Sydney West Sports Medicine;
  • Free access to Fit 4 All gym located in Penrith.
