The Western Sydney Academy of Sport’s Canoe Slalom Program is implemented in collaboration with Australian Canoeing. The Program provides an essential and highly relevant step in the development pathway of young canoe athletes from across the Western Sydney Region. The ultimate goal is preparing these talented young paddlers for progression to State and National squad representation selection.

The Program features skills, athlete education and fitness elements as well as personal development opportunities. This Program is a comprehensive introduction to what will be required at the elite levels of the sport.

Duration: May 2018 – May 2019

Venues: Penrith Whitewater Stadium & Fit 4 All Gymnasium

To be eligible for the Academy Canoe Slalom Program, athletes must be:

  • Aged between 13-19 years of age at the time of the program;
  • Committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of canoeing;
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, City of Parramatta, Penrith or The Hills.

An athlete levy of $300 is applicable to athletes, which assists in meeting the costs of the Program.

In addition to regular scheduled training sessions, the following benefits will apply to athletes selected within the WSAS Canoe Slalom Program:

  • Ability to nominate for the annual Woolworths Athlete Scholarship;
