The Western Sydney Academy of Sport’s Canoe Freestyle Program provides essential and highly relevant education and personal development opportunities to develop young canoe freestyle athletes from across the Western Sydney Region. The ultimate goal is preparing these talented young paddlers for progression along the development pathway.

The Program features athlete education and functional movement screening elements as well as personal development opportunities. This Program is a comprehensive introduction to what will be required at the elite levels of the sport.

Duration: October 2018 – July 2019

Venues: Penrith Whitewater Stadium & Fit 4 All Gymnasium

To be eligible for the Academy Canoe Slalom Program, athletes must be:

  • Aged between 13-19 years of age at the time of the program;
  • Committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of canoeing;
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, City of Parramatta, Penrith or The Hills.

An athlete levy of $300 is applicable to athletes, which assists in meeting the costs of the Program.

In addition to regular scheduled training sessions, the following benefits will apply to athletes selected within the WSAS Canoe Freestyle Program:

  • Valuable athlete education seminars provided by specialists in nutrition, physiology and injury management & prevention;
  • Access to online portals for ASADA, AIS My Basecamp and other relevant websites;
  • Academy athlete uniform clothing;
  • Ability to nominate for the annual Woolworths Athlete Scholarship;

  • Free membership to Fit 4 All gym located in Penrith.
