NETBALL PROGRAM

The Western Sydney Academy of Sport’s Netball Program provides high performance training opportunities for talented young athletes in the western Sydney region. In partnership with Netball NSW (NNSW) the program provides opportunities for pre-elite netballers in the areas of technical skill, education and personal development, preparing athletes for the next level of elite sport representation.

The Academy Program follows the Netball Australia Develop a Diamond Academy (DADA) program which includes specific skill components, testing and reporting procedures. Together with competition opportunities, this assists athletes to further progress in the netball development pathway.

Duration: October – July

Venues: Netball Central – Sydney Olympic Park

The Program comprises of technical development, athlete education, sports science, fitness elements and personal development opportunities for Academy scholarship holders. The Program aims to prepare athletes for progression to higher levels of individual performance and achievement, specifically selection into U17 and U19 State squads and NSWIS/AIS squads.

Athletes will have the opportunity to compete at the Clubs NSW Academy Games and Australian Invitational Youth Games.

To be eligible for the Academy Netball Program, athletes must be:

  • Aged between 14 – 16 at the time of the program;
  • Committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of netball;
  • A current financial member of a netball Club or Association within the western Sydney region;
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, City of Parramatta, Penrith or The Hills.

An athlete levy of $390 is applicable to athletes, which assists in meeting the costs of the Program. This will be advised at the time of nominations.
