Surf Lifesaver Sets Sights On The Green & Gold
2016 Lone Star athlete Rachel Wood has proven her strength in the surf time and time again. Last year Rachel competed in the Youth Surf Lifesaving World Championships where she secured an array of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. This year, Rachel is moving up from the Youth Championships and has been selected in the Australian Open Surf Lifesaving Squad.
This squad forms the pool for selection of five female and five male athletes to represent Australia at The World Games to be held in Poland this July. The Australian squad has qualified to compete in the Pool Rescue at The Games, if Rachel is successful she will form part of the Australian Pool Rescue Team.
However, it’s not all on the line, if Rachel does not gain selection into this team there are more opportunities later in the year to compete for her country in competition held in New Zealand (September) and the Netherlands (November). All these opportunities will assist Rachel in her selection into the Open Team to compete at the World Life Saving Championships to be held in Adelaide next year. After Rachel’s proven success at the Youth World Life Saving Championships in 2016, it will be great to see her compete in the next level of International competition.
