Western Sydney Canoeists Take Out Oceania Championships
The 2017 Canoe Slalom Oceania Championships kicked off on 27 January at Auckland’s Vector Wero Whitewater Park, where Academy alumni hailing from western Sydney displayed incredible talent.
Jessica Fox once again displayed her incredible talent at the Championships, winning the Women’s Kayak Single (K1) and the Women’s Canoe Single (C1). Fox was competing against other Academy alumni including Rosalyn Lawrence, who took out 2nd in the C1, sister Noemi Fox who placed 7th in the K1 and 4th in the C1, Alison Borrows (6th in the C1) and Alexandra Broome (7th in the C1).
Despite a two second penalty in the final Jess Fox still managed to finish one second clear of Nouria Newman, representing France, in the K1 race. Next up for Fox will be the Australian Open at Penrith’s Whitewater Stadium later this month.
