On Saturday 26 October, we welcomed our newest Athletes to the program at the annual Athlete Induction Day held at Western Sydney University in Kingswood.
The day started off well with an introduction to the Academy from CEO Martin Bullock who explained the finer details of who we are, what we do and what the athletes can expect to get out of the programs if they give it their all.
Western Sydney University representative, Sport Management Lecturer, Dr Jess Richards addressed the group about the university and the different pathways and programs they offer, in particular to talented young athletes. She also spoke of the different sports related courses they teach. This was a particularly great session for our older athletes that are starting to consider further education after high school.
Before breaking up to meet with their respective squads we heard from Renee Aravena, who often speaks at our Your Local Club education sessions. In this case she talked about Bullying & Resilience, sending each athlete home with a 21 Day Resilience Journal to help them on their road to resilience.
After a short break we were joined by exercise physiologist Nick Feather from Sydney West Sports Medicine. Nick talked us through injury prevention and management and how Sydney West Sports Management can help in these areas.
We are excited to welcome on board our 2019/20 athletes and look forward to a great year ahead!
