Fundraiser To Support Young Western Sydney Athletes

The Western Sydney Academy of Sport held its ninth annual ‘A Night With The Stars’ celebrity sports dinner on Friday 23 March in Castle Hill RSL Club’s Lyceum Room.

This event raises valuable funds for the athlete development programs provided by the Academy to the young athletes of western Sydney. The organising committee, made up of business leaders from within western Sydney, are proud to announce that over $30,000 was raised on the night. This event is made possible only by the immense support that businesses from all over the region provide.

The event kicked off with a performance from Isabella Galvez from Sister2Sister School of Singing, who lit up the room with her rendition of the 2018 Commonwealth Games theme song. Her performance was followed by Powerhouse Dance Factory’s talented young dancers performing a sports themed routine.

The night was filled with monster raffles, business card draws, silent and live auctions, with some highly attractive items available to purchase, thanks to the long list of loyal supporters and donors.

“The Academy is enormously grateful for the support of our event partners, who have played a major role in us achieving over $30,000 in funds raised for our talented young athlete development programs. Without their support we wouldn’t be able to provide our high quality services to our region’s best young athletes!” explained Academy CEO Martin Bullock.

Foxsports presenter Jo Healy lead the night as MC, engaging our special guests Jason Cadee, Alex Hulley and Jana Pittman in Bar Stool Banter segments. While Jason and Alex talked about their hard work, excitement and nerves as they approach the upcoming Commonwealth Games, Jana gave great insight into what it was like to be a world champion and the major contrasts between competition at the Olympic Games and the Winter Olympic Games.

Olympian and Academy graduate athlete Jess Fox was also in the crowd and spoke to the audience about what she has been up to since we saw her in Rio. Jo also engaged The Minister for Sport The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP in a question and answer session about current issues including the major stadium infrastructure developments in Sydney.

The Academy would like to acknowledge the fantastic support of all the event supporters and partners of ‘A Night With The Stars’ which will assist in providing quality development programs to western Sydney’s young athletes.
