RUGBY UNION PROGRAM

The Academy’s Rugby Union Program provides quality athlete development opportunities for talented young athletes in the western Sydney region. The program provides development opportunities for athletes in the areas of technical skill, education, and personal development, preparing athletes for the next level of elite sport representation.

Duration:  January – March

Venues: TG Millner & Eric Tweedale Stadium

The Program will comprise of technical development opportunities, athlete education, sports science and fitness elements for Academy scholarship holders. The Program aims to prepare athletes for progression to higher levels of individual performance and achievement.

To be eligible to nominate for a scholarship within the Academy’s 2022/23 Rugby Union Program, athletes must be: 

  • Born between 2005 – 2009;
  • Committed to progressing to higher levels of representation within the sport of Rugby Union;
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Parramatta, Penrith or The Hills.

An athlete levy of $250.00 is applicable to successful athletes, which assists in meeting the costs of the Program. Additional contribution costs may be applicable for squad tours.

In addition to regular scheduled training sessions, the following benefits will apply to athletes selected within the Rugby Union Program: 

  • Individual, as well as squad high-quality coaching;
  • Insight into what it takes to become a professional athlete;
  • Identification and training methods to correct technique;
  • Opportunities to represent WSAS at various events;
  • Academy athlete uniform clothing;
  • Athlete education program
  • Access to online portals for Sports Integrity Australia and other relevant websites;
  • Free access to Fit 4 All gym located in Penrith;
  • A discount on services provided by Sydney West Sports Medicine.
