Success at the Australian Invitational Youth Games
On Wednesday 13 July, our Netball squad travelled to Maitland to compete in the Australian Invitational Youth Games hosted by the Hunter Academy of Sport. Our Academy had teams play in both Division 1 and Division 2 of the Greater Bank Netball Tournament. Both teams showed great skill and team work with nothing but professionalism demonstrated throughout the tournament. The Division 2 side presented strong competition against the other Academies. The Division 1 side played exceptionally well and were a standout team. As they stepped on the court for their final game undefeated they were taking on the undefeated Sydney Netball Academy. Over the three days, this was the game that was highly anticipated. After coming off the court at the end of the first quarter, we were down in points but up in spirit. The girls came back on the court and dominated the next three quarters, gaining the win and remaining the undefeated champions.
As the netball squads made their way back to western Sydney, the softball squads set sights on Newcastle. The boys squad finished 3rd overall for the weekend of competition, competing against other regional Academies, interstate and international teams. The girls squad showed what western Sydney’s made of when they beat the USA team 3-0, continuing their undefeated streak!
The Academy would like to express our appreciation for the coaching and managerial staff that are involved with the squads and allow these athletes to take advantage of such great competitive opportunities. The success of our teams is a testament to the skill and commitment of our coaches.
