Academy Wide

  • Heather Smith joined the WSAS family as the new Athlete Programs Mananger with Steve Hewson stepping into a supporting role.
  • Triathlon Head Coach James Sweeney and Softball Assistant Coach Matt Beach attended the 2022 Sports NSW Community Sports Awards as finalists in the Community Coach of the Year and Community Official of the Year awards respectively. Unfortunately, neither of them was named the winner but being nominated and becoming a finalist is a big feat in itself.


  • WSAS Inaugral Coach Eliza O’Leary, Lee Williams (Alumni) and Current Assistant Coach Jack Rauhihi won the maiden O35s National Championship.

Canoe Slalom

  • Alumni Jess Fox won gold in the K1 event at the 3rd World Cup in Tacen, Ljubljana, this completes Jess’ hat trick with winning the K1 event at each of the 3 World Cups this season.
  • Alumni Lachlan Basset made his World Cup debut in C1 event at the 3rd ICF World Cup event in Tacen, Ljubljana.


  • Alumni Moses Leota made his international debut for New Zealand against Mate Ma’a Tonga.
  • Alumni Jerome Luai was selected and played in the 2nd Origin game, Jerome had a good game and scored a try.


  • Blake Pasfield competed at the NSW School Rugby Trials for AICES. Blake scored a try and converted three goals, assisting the team to place 3rd overall.


  • Laura Ashwin (Alumni), Angelina Ballas and Head Coach Heather Smith were named in the NSW Metro Emerging Talent Team as athletes and Assistant Coach.
  • Umpire Coach Kiri Bowcock was named an Umpire Athletes for the Emerging Talent Teams.


  • The 2022 Rowing Squad attended their induction at Nepean Rowing Club.
