The Academy’s Cycling Program provides quality athlete development opportunities for talented young athletes in the Western Sydney region. In partnership with Cycling NSW and NSWIS, the program provides development opportunities for athletes in the areas of technical skill, education and personal development, preparing athletes for the next level of elite sport representation.

The Program includes specific skill components, testing and reporting procedures set by Cycling NSW. Together with competition opportunities, these program elements allow athletes to further progress along the cycling development pathway.

Duration:  October – May

Venues: Dunc Gray Velodrome

The Program will comprise of technical development opportunities, athlete education, sports science and fitness elements for Academy scholarship holders. The Program aims to prepare athletes for progression to higher levels of individual performance and achievement, specifically selection into State and NSWIS squads.

To be eligible to nominate for a scholarship within the Academy’s 2021/22 Cycling Program, athletes must be: 

  • Born between 2004 – 2009;
  • A current financial member of a local Cycling Club affiliated with AusCycling;
  • Committed to progressing to higher levels of representation within the sport of cycling;
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Cumberland, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, City of Parramatta, Penrith or The Hills.

An athlete levy of $400 is applicable to athletes, which assists in meeting the costs of the Program. This will be advised at the time of nominations.

In addition to regular scheduled training sessions, the following benefits will apply to athletes selected within the WSAS Cycling Program: 

  • Access to first class training facilities;
  • Athlete education program including seminars provided by specialists in nutrition, sports psychology, cyber safety, integrity in sport and injury management & prevention;
  • Access to online portals for ASADA and other relevant websites;
  • Insight into what it takes to become a professional athlete;
  • Identification and training methods to correct technique;
  • Academy athlete uniform clothing;
  • Free access to Fit 4 All gym located in Penrith;
  • Ability to nominate for the annual Woolworths Athlete Scholarship;
  • Access to the Team App Acaemy communication system;
  • A discount on services provided by Sydney West Sports Medicine.
