SOFTBALL PROGRAM

The Academy’s Softball Program provides high performance training opportunities for talented young athletes in the western Sydney region. In partnership with Softball NSW, the program provides opportunities for athletes in the areas of technical skill, education and personal development, preparing athletes for the next level of elite sport representation.

The Program includes specific skill components, testing and reporting procedures as set by Softball NSW. Together with competition opportunities, this assists athletes to further progress in the softball development pathway.

Athletes will have the opportunity to compete at the Your Local Club Academy Games.

Duration: October – July

Venues: Blacktown International Sportspark

The Program comprises of technical development, athlete education, sports science, fitness elements and personal development opportunities for Academy scholarship holders. The Program aims to prepare athletes for progression to higher levels of individual performance and achievement, specifically selection into Junior State and National squads.

To be eligible for the Academy 2020/21 Softball Program, athletes must be:

  • Born between 2006 – 2007;
  • Committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of softball;
  • A current financial member of a softball Club within the western Sydney region;
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Cumberland, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Parramatta, Penrith or The Hills.

An athlete levy of $400 is applicable to athletes, which assists in meeting the costs of the Program.

In addition to regular scheduled training sessions, the following benefits will apply to athletes selected within the WSAS Softball Program:

  • Access to first class training facilities;
  • Individual, as well as squad high quality coaching endorsed by Softball NSW;
  • Insight into what it takes to become a professional athlete;
  • Identification and training methods to correct technique;
  • Opportunities to represent WSAS at various events;
  • Academy athlete uniform clothing;
  • Athlete education program including seminars provided by specialists in nutrition, sports psychology, cyber safety, integrity in sport and injury management & prevention;
  • Access to online portals for ASADA and other relevant websites;
  • Free access to Fit 4 All gym located in Penrith;
  • A discount on services provided by Sydney West Sports Medicine.
