Digital Realty Netball Umpire Program

The Academy’s Digital Realty Netball Umpire Program provides high-performance training opportunities for talented young umpires in the Western Sydney region. In partnership with Netball NSW (NNSW) the program provides opportunities for pre-elite netball umpires in the areas of technical skill, education and personal development, preparing athletes for the next level of elite sport representation.

The Program includes specific skill components, testing and reporting procedures. Together with umpiring opportunities at Netball NSW & Academy events which will assist athletes to further progress in the netball umpire development pathway.

Duration: February – October

Venue: Blacktown Leisure Centre – Stanhope Gardens

The Program comprises of technical development, athlete education, sports science, fitness elements and personal development opportunities for Academy scholarship holders. The Program aims to prepare athletes for progression to higher levels of individual performance and achievement.

Athletes will have the opportunity to umpire at the Your Local Club Academy Games and other inter-Academy competitions.

To be eligible for the 2022 Digital Realty Netball Umpire Program, umpires must be:

  • Turning 14-18 in 2022
  • Committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of netball;
  • A current financial member of a netball Club or Association within the western Sydney region;
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Cumberland, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Parramatta, Penrith or The Hills.

An athlete levy of $300 is applicable to athletes, which assists in meeting the costs of the Program. This will be advised at the time of nominations.

In addition to regular scheduled training sessions, the following benefits will apply to athletes selected within the WSAS Digital Realty Netball Umpire Program:

  • Access to first class training facilities;
  • Individual, as well as squad high quality coaching endorsed by Netball NSW;
  • Insight into what it takes to become a professional athlete;
  • Athlete education program including seminars provided by specialists in nutrition, sports psychology, cyber safety, integrity in sport and injury management & prevention;
  • Access to online portals for ASADA and other relevant websites;
  • Opportunities to represent WSAS at various events;
  • Academy athlete uniform clothing;
  • Free access to Fit 4 All gym located in Penrith;
  • Ability to nominate for the annual Woolworths Athlete Scholarship;
  • A discount on services provided by Sydney West Sports Medicine.
