The Hills Shire Council Recognises Academy Athletes

The Hills Shire Council hosted a reception on March 20th to celebrate the achievements of 22 local athletes participating in the Western Sydney Academy of Sports (WSAS) programs. This annual event, hosted by Mayor Dr. Peter Gangemi and Clr. Rosemarie Boneham, underscores the longstanding partnership between the Council and WSAS.

The Academy, approaching its 20th anniversary in June, expressed gratitude for the Council’s unwavering support. Over the past two decades, this partnership has facilitated scholarships for over 560 talented young athletes across the region.

During the ceremony, each athlete received a Certificate of Achievement from Mayor Dr. Peter Gangemi. Representing a diverse range of sports – volleyball, softball, netball, BMX racing, triathlon, and individual Future Stars program athletes – these athletes exemplify the depth of sporting talent within The Hills Shire.

Mayor Peter Gangemi commended the athletes’ achievements, emphasising the Council’s strong commitment to fostering local sports. He stressed the valuable social and personal development benefits that participation in these pathway programs offers to The Hills Shire’s aspiring young athletes.

This ceremony served as recognition of both the exceptional talent and dedication of young athletes within The Hills Shire, and the enduring commitment of the Hills Shire Council and WSAS to nurturing their potential for future success.
